SARFT Punishes Illegal Chinese Internet Video Service Providers
April, 2008

China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has published the results of online audio and video service provider checks it has recently completed and it has punished websites that have been involved in illegal operations.

25 of the websites, including Mop.com, have been asked to stop providing audio and video programs via the Internet, and 32 websites, including Toudu.com, have received warnings.

From December 20, 2007 to February 20, 2008, SARFT conducted a check on websites offering online audio and video services. SARFT's results show that some websites, like xinhuanet.com and people.com.cn, are providing qualified content, while others are not. SARFT says the main problems of these violators include operating without a license and offering programs containing pornography, violence or other harmful content or information that endangers national security.
SARFT has asked its affiliates around China to issue undisclosed punishments to the companies within their respective regions.
