Innovative technology co-op to be stepped up
Thursday, 27 December 2007
China will strengthen innovative technological cooperation with foreign countries for mutual benefit, Vice-Minister of Science and Technology Li Xueyong said Monday.
Addressing the China-US Innovation Conference in Beijing, Li said: "We hope to provide more policies and standards to encourage innovative technology that conform to international rules."
An efficient international innovation cooperation platform needs to be set up since China is trying to shift the base of its economic development mode from investment to technology, he said.
"China will cooperate more actively with other countries to share the fruits of technological advancement and protect intellectual property rights (IPR)."
IPR protection and setting international standards are among the key issues in building an innovative society, US Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez said. "The cooperation between China and the US is quite important because 40 percent of the world's economic growth comes from the two countries."
The weeklong conference's aim is to help share innovation experiences, and promote technological cooperation between the two countries' governments, enterprises and research institutes.
That China has a good innovation and development environment is borne out by Microsoft's decision to choose it as its R&D center in the Asia-Pacific region.
Asserting the fact, Microsoft Vice-President and Microsoft Asia Research Director Ya-Qin Zhang said: "Bill Gates visited a number of countries and universities. And he was quite impressed with the quality and talents of the students and the enthusiasm and passion of the people here."

12/17/07

China announced approval for 20 national hi-tech trade bases on Monday to boost exports of hi-tech products and improve competitiveness in international markets.
The new bases, mostly hi-tech development zones in such major cities as Shanghai, Chongqing, Wuhan and Xiamen, have more than 300 national scientific research institutes each, according to the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) and Ministry of Science and Technology.
They included the information technology, biological medicine, manufacturing, fine chemicals, new materials and new energy sources sectors.
With 18 bases approved last year, the move brings the number of national hi-tech trade bases to 38.
The MOC would help these bases develop products for overseas markets by providing support in research funding, personnel training, export credit, commercial information and protection of intellectual property rights, said MOC official Zhang Ji.
Official figures said China's exports of hi-tech products jumped 31.8 percent year-on-year to $314.4 billion in the first 11 months.

Chinese IGRS to become international standards
Tuesday, 04 December 2007
Sun Yuning, leader of China's Intelligent Grouping and Resource Sharing Work Team, has told local media that the IGRS standard made by Chinese enterprises has passed a critical vote at the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission and this means it will become the first international standard in the global 3C coordination field. He says the final result for IGRS to be an international standard is definite, though it still needs to undergo a series of necessary formalities. As the first technical standard made by Chinese enterprises, IGRS has been expanding since its establishment. Until now, it has already become a large industry alliance with more than 90 members, all of whom are leaders within their respective industry, and over 200 invention patents. In the two rounds of voting at the ISO in July last year and March this year, it was accepted as a candidate technology standard and draft with accordance from developed countries such as the US, Japan, South Korea, France and Britain. Analysts say that IGRS will advance Chinese enterprises' accreditance after it becomes an international standard.
